RosaceaRosacea is a common disease that is often referred to as "adult acne". It is seen in fair skinned individuals and commonly presents between the ages of 30 and 50. There are a wide spectrum of symptoms from facial redness and flushing to outbreaks of pimples and pustules. Patients with rosacea will commonly notice triggers including sun exposure, caffeinated or alcoholic beverages, hot drinks or spicy foods, and extremes of temperature. There is no cure for rosacea but symptoms can be better controlled with both topical and oral medications depending on severity. It is important for all patients with rosacea to practice good sun protection with a daily SPF of 15 or greater and broad-brimmed hats during the summer months. Approximately 50% of patients with rosacea with have involvement of their eyes (ocular rosacea). This may present as a grittiness or burning sensation of the eyes.
